Oct Khrushchev agrees to remove the missiles in exchange for a USAcommitment not to invade Cuba & that the USAwill remove American MRBMs targeting Russia from Turkey & Italy
Oct Khrushchev wants to locate missiles in Cuba as a deterrent to a USAinvasion & justifies the move in response to USAmissile deployment in Turkey
26th Oct Khruschev sends a letter to Kennedy suggesting that the sites would be dismantled if the United States gave its reassurance that it would not invade Cuba
28th Oct Khruschev announces that the sites would be dismantled, as well as, the removal of light bombers
28th Oct Moscow Khruschev removes the missiles but on the understanding the USA does not invade Cuba
